PHILANTHROPY WORKS

2012 – 2015

ROLE:  WRITING, BRANDING, CONTENT PLANNING, INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN

The world of major giving is crazy nuanced, and one of the perennial challenges facing nonprofits is providing adequate training for their gift officers, particularly at the junior level, where field experience is limited.

Philanthropy Works was founded by two savvy vets who understood this challenge and recognized an opportunity for a subscription-based service that would both provide certified training courses and be a kind of content bible that major gift officers could consult when and where they needed it.

My job was to write about the complex world of major giving in an expert, affable tone. With blog posts I had the chance to go off on my own, whereas core content was sourced from the founders’ dense notes on the tax benefits of charitable gift annuities (or whatever). I developed core content across the site, as well as the template structure for the Gift Planning Field Guide.
